During Spring Break 1961, student George Dalluge climbed up a traffic light pole at Las Olas and A1A. Hanging by his knees, he encouraged tipsy students to make demands of the city, such as allowing alcoholic beverages on the street. Police apprehended Dalluge, who was sentenced to 70 days for inciting a riot and resisting arrest. This photo ended up as a centerfold in Life magazine. Gene Hyde Collection.
